In only four years, St. Francis Xavier Orphanage has made a tremendous difference in the lives of 18 children, and in the community, thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
Now it’s time to build on those accomplishments.
We have purchased land, where we plan to build a new home for the Orphanage. This new facility was designed for us by a local architect in Haiti and will have:
• Boys and girls separate dormitories (required by law for youngsters 13 and up)
• Indoor kitchen facilities
• Indoor toilets
• Staff sleeping quarters
• Guest quarters
• A large yard for recreation and gardening
Our current facility is a rented property that lacks many of the amenities that the new facility will have. There is little we can do to improve it. We need to build a more permanent, fully equipped structure.
What’s it going to cost?
It will cost an estimated $500,000 to construct and furnish the building, put in a well and septic system, build a security wall, landscape the property and cover miscellaneous expenses associated with construction.
We have already raised $84,000 – that’s almost 20 percent of our goal! We need to raise the rest by the end of 2016 to have our new facility open by the summer of 2017.
This isn’t a want. This is a need. The Orphanage must move within the next two years for it to remain open. And it is our goal that the Orphanage will remain open.
